Few minutes before the commencement of the POP Ceremony

610 Gentlemen Cadets passed out from Indian Military Academy  (IMA), Dehradun to become commissioned officers on 11th June 2016, Out of 610 GC’s 45 were foreign Cadets from friendly countries, who will join their respective army. 565 GC’s crossed the ‘Antim Pagg’ to became officers of Indian Army.

Lt Gen Sarath Chand UYSM, AVSM, VSM, GOC-in-C, South Western Command reviewed the parade.Reviewing Officer Lt. Gen. Chand motivated young cadets to carry forward the legacy of sacrifice and bravery of bravehearts like Major Somnath Sharma, Lt. Arun Khetrapal, Captain Vikram Batra and Lt. Manoj Pandey. Lt. Gen. Chand also emphasized on adapting to the modern form of warfare. Lt. Gen. Chand inspected the guard of honour of the Passing out GC’s.

The coveted ‘Sword of Honour’ was given to Academy Cadet Adjutant Rajendra Singh Bisht. Batallion Under Officer Aman Dhaka won the Gold Medal for standing first in the overall merit list, whereas Silver Medal for standing second in the merit list was given to Senior Under officer N. Dinesh Kumar. Bronze Medal was given to Academy Cadet Adjutant Rajendra Singh Bisht. Silver Medal for the Gentleman Cadet standing First in the Order of Merit from Technical Graduate Course was presented to Gentleman Cadet Avijit Hazra Chowdhury. Silver Medal for the Foreign Gentleman Cadet standing First in the Order of Merit  amongst the Foreign Gentlemen Cadets was presented to –Foreign Junior Under Officer Choki Dorji.

The Chief of Army Staff Banner was presented to Imphal Company for standing overall First amongst the 16 companies for the Spring Term 2016.

The Parade began with Advance Call. The main aim of the advance call is to check the parade and come to the location to start the parade.

In an Interview Lt. Gen. Chand talked about the challenges Indian Army is facing currently. He also reiterated the fact that young cadets are trained to lead from the front, Imbibing the spirit of ‘Balidan’ in them.

If we bifurcate the number of GC’s passed out from each state, Uttar Pradesh leading the count with 98 officers followed by Himachal Pradesh and Bihar with 60 each. This time only 27 officers were from Punjab.

Till date 57,075 are commissioned from IMA, whereas 1,908 Foreign GC’s are commissioned from IMA.

After the Piping ceremony Young Cadets took oath to safeguard the country till the peril of their life. It was moment of pride for the parents. There were few third generation young army officers who carried forward the legacy of their fathers and grandfathers.

According to GC Aman Dhaka, the Gold medal winner ‘the best thing about army is the feeling of commanding the men and one can get everything which they desire for after joining armed forces.’

This event marked the transition of young boys into brave men, who are ready to sacrifice themselves for their motherland and the safety of their fellow citizens.
