Garima Abrol, widow of Squadron Leader Samir Abrol, got commissioned into the Indian Air Force (IAF) as flying officer after passing out from Airforce Academy at Dundigal near Hyderabad on December 19. Last year in July, Garima cleared Services Selection Board (SSB) from AFSB Varanasi in the widow category. She joined the Airforce academy in January this year.

The occasion was the 18th Passing Out Parade of 22 officers of Special Commissioned Officers’ Course (SCO)-45. The SCO Course also included 15 Gentlemen Cadets who were commissioned as officers into the Assam Rifles.

The POP at IMA is a spectacular event showcasing the training imparted to the further military leaders. As a build up to the Parade, a splendid “Son-et-Lumiere” show, based on the theme “Indian Military Academy Through the Ages” was held on December 11 which took the audience on a nostalgic journey of the Academy from its inception in 1932 to its present status.
