Vice Admiral Karambir Singh Appointed as Next Indian Navy Chief; Admiral Sunil Lanba Retires on May 31

Eastern Naval Command Chief, Vice Admiral Karambir Singh on Saturday was appointed as the new chief of the Indian Navy. He will succeed Admiral Sunil Lanba who is retiring from the service on May 31. “The government of India appoints Vice Admiral Karambir Singh, Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, as the next Chief of the Naval Staff. To assume charge on superannuation of Admiral Sunil Lanba on May 31,” an Indian Navy spokesman said in a tweet. President Ram Nath Kovind Presents Gallantry Awards 2019 to Indian Army, Paramilitary Personnel, General Bipin Rawat Receives Param Vishisht Seva Medal.

Vice Admiral Karambir Singh’s Profile:

Vice Admiral Singh is currently serving Flag Officer Commanding in Chief (FOC-in-C), Eastern Naval Command of the Indian Navy.  Born on November 03, 1959, Vice Admiral Karambir Singh was commissioned on July 01, 1980 into the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy. During his long and distinguished service spanning nearly 39 years, he has served in a variety of Command, Staff and Instructional appointments. Vice Admiral Singh’s Sea Command includes Guided Missile Destroyers INS Rana and INS Delhi. India Signs $3-Billion Deal With Russia to Get Akula Class Nuclear Submarine, Chakra-III on Lease.

He also served as Fleet Operations Officer of the Western Fleet and was Flag Officer Commanding Maharashtra and Gujarat area. Before taking over as FOC-in-C Eastern Naval Command in October 2017, he was Director General Project Seabird, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff and Vice Chief of the Naval Staff. Vice Admiral Karambir Singh is a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. Vice Admiral Karambir Singh has been decorated with the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM).
