Jaipur: The funeral of Lieutenant Colonel (Retd) Rajveer Singh Chauhan, the pilot of the ill-fated helicopter that crashed in Uttarakhand on June 15, was held in Rajasthan’s Jaipur on Friday. His wife, Lt Col Deepika Chauhan, bid him a teary farewell wearing an Army uniform.

A video that surfaced online shows Lt Col Chauhan crying inconsolably while standing next to her husband’s coffin. Visibly shattered, she also led Lt Col (Retd) Rajveer Singh Chauhan’s funeral procession, carrying his photo.

The former Army officer’s funeral was also attended by prominent state leaders, including Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore. “I have come to pay tribute. He left us at such a young age. Despite that, see the strength of the mother… she chanted, ‘Vande Mataram’, ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’. Because of such mothers, India is strong. He was a strong and great officer… He left behind two kids… May God give strength to the family to bear the loss,” Rathore told news agency PTI.

Notably, Lt Col (Retd) Rajveer Singh Chauhan, the pilot of a Bell 407 helicopter operated by Aryan Aviation, was among the seven people who died in the crash in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district on Sunday, June 15. The incident took place near Gaurikund when the chopper was flying from Kedarnath to Guptkashi.

Lt Col (Retd) Chauhan served in the Indian Army for 15 years. The couple became parents of twins four months ago after 14 years of marriage. Lt Col (Retd) Chauhan completed his Bachelor of Arts (Economics) from the University of Rajasthan in 2007.

Lt Col (Retd) Chauhan, in his LinkedIn bio, had written, “My role involved operations planning and executing flying missions over daunting terrains that few would navigate. I led initiatives that impacted remote communities, from constructing a primary school to establishing a healthcare center, elevating the quality of life for the local populace. My leadership extended to a team of 50 highly skilled Air Traffic Personnel. I led the planning and execution of flying operations in the intricate terrain of Punjab, along the International Border.”

He joined Aryan Aviation Private Limited as a helicopter pilot in October last year. Lt Col (Retd) Chauhan had over 2,000 hours of flying experience.
