Ministry of Defence (MoD) placed an order with Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF), Avadi, Chennai for supply of 118 Main Battle Tanks (MBTs) Arjun Mk-1A for the Indian Army on September 23, 2021. The order, worth Rs 7,523 crore, will provide further boost to the ‘Make in India’ initiative in defence sector and is a big step towards achieving ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
General MM Naravane, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) is on a two-day visit to Kashmir to review the prevailing security situation in the UT. On arrival at Srinagar on Wednesday, i.e June 2, the Army Chief, accompanied by Lt Gen YK Joshi, the Northern Army Commander and Lt Gen DP Pandey, Chinar Corps Commander visited units and formations in the hinterland.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday laid the Foundation Stone for construction of two underpasses at Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun. The inauguration was done electronically from New Delhi by Singh and was e-witnessed by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Bipin Rawat, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General MM Naravane, and GOC-in-C Army Training Command, Lieutenant General Raj Shukla.
The Indian Army on Sunday lost four bravehearts while fighting with terrorists in Handwara town of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district. One Jammu and Kashmir police sub-inspector also attained martyrdom. The Indian Army personnel who lost their lives in the encounter, include Commanding Officer of 21 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) unit, Colonel Ashutosh Sharma, Major Anuj Sood, Naik Rajesh Kumar and Lance Naik Dinesh Singh. J&K police officer has been identified as Shakeel Qazi.
