The first part of the Indo-French joint naval exercise, ‘Varuna’ kicked off in the Arabian Sea off Goa coast on Wednesday. The exercise will be conducted till May 10. Despite fire incident, aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya is taking part in the drill along with French carrier Charles De Gaulle.
In a tragic incident, Lieutenant Commander DS Chauhan lost his life after a fire broke out on board Indian Navy’s aircraft carrier, INS Vikramaditya. The incident occurred when the ship was entering harbour in Karnataka’s Karwar.
INS Vikrant, India’s first indigenous-built aircraft carrier will be delivered to the Indian Navy in 2021. Indian Naval Chief Admiral Lanba on Saturday said that INS Vikrant is undergoing outfitting at Kochi Shipyard Limited. He further added that harbour acceptance trials are in progress and sea acceptance trial of this will commence in the latter half of this year.
