IMA POP Spring Term 2019: Lt Reza Khalid Rejects IIT, Prefers to Serve Nation by Joining Indian Army

The Passing Out Parade (POP) of of 144 Regular Course, 127 Technical Graduate Course and 27 UES Course was held at Indian Military Academy’s (IMA) Drill Square on June 8, 2019. A total of 382 Gentlemen Cadets (GCs) took oath to serve the nation till their last breathe. Among the newly commissioned officers, Lt Reza Khalid preferred to serve in the Indian Army over joining the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). Lt Khalid who hails from Ranchi, cleared the entrance examinations of IIT and also of BITS Palani in the first attempt. But the the officer chose to join the armed forces. Lt Khalid joined the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla in 2015. After three years of training at the institute, he was for one year at the IMA. The officer’s father Mohammed Khalid is retired government employee from the state food department.

Talking to media, Lt Khalid said that he joined the Indian Army as wnted to serve the nation. He further added that he wanted respect, dignity and power in life, which he will get by joining the armed forces. The officer was commissioned into the Punjab Regiment. On Saturday a total of 459 GCs including 77 cadets from friendly foreign countries joined passed out from the IMA. General Officer Commanding in Chief South Western Command Lieutenant General Cherish Mathson PVSM, VSMSM, SM reviewed the parade. Maximum number of 72 officers were commissioned from Uttar Pradesh, followed by Bihar with 46 officers. Meanwhile, 33 officers were commissioned from Punjab. Among the GCs of the friendly foreign countries, 45 cadets from Afghanistan completed their training.

Indian Military Academy’s Gentleman Cadet Amul Rawal Dies After Falling Into Gorge During Night Navigation Exercise

In a tragic incident, Amul, Rawal, a Gentleman Cadet of the Indian Military Academy (IMA) Dehradun lost his life during training exercise on May 6 when he fell into a deep gorge during night navigation exercise. This exercise is conducted every year for the second term cadets.

Rawal was an ex-National Defence Academy (NDA) cadet, who joined the IMA in January this into the second term after three years of training at the premier institute in Pune. The GC sustained a head injury and was given a medical attention on the spot. Indian Military Academy POP 2018: 347 GCs Commissioned Into The Indian Army.

Rawal was immediate rushed in an ambulance to Military hospital under a supervision of a medical officer. However, he succumbed to his injuries and was declared brought dead.. Rawal belonged to Haryana’s Karnal and would been commissioned into the Indian Army in December this year. A procedural Court of Inquiry has been ordered to probe the matter.
