General Manoj Mukund Naravane Congratulates Col Sarfaraz For Being Conferred With Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award 2019

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Manoj Mukund Naravane congratulated Colonel Sarfaraz Singh for being conferred with the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award 2019 in Land Adventure category. The Indian Army in a tweet said, “General MM Naravane #COAS & all ranks of the #IndianArmy congratulate Colonel Sarfaraz Singh for being conferred with the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award.” Colonel Sarfaraz is a son of Olympic Hockey player Col (Retd.) Balbir Singh Kular.

Currently, the Indian Army officer is the director of the National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (NIMAS). At the time when the list was announced, Col Sarfaraz was leading an expedition to Kangto. It is a 7,060-metre peak close to the China border in Arunachal Pradesh. The Indian Army officer has a passion for adventure sports. He is a skydiver, a combat free faller and certified scuba rescue diver. Col Sarfaraz also climbed the highest peaks of four continents. He climbed Mount Everest in Asia, Mount Aconcagua in South America, Mount Elbrus in Europe and Mount Kilimanjaro Africa. Col Sarfaraz, belonged to the elite Parachute Regiment of the Indian Army and has the honour of commanding 6 Para unit.

On Friday, the Central government the National Sports Awards 2020. The government will confer the prestigious Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award 2019 to eight people, including Col Sarfaraz Singh. The others who have been selected for the award are – Anita Devi, Taka Tamut, Narender Singh and Keval Hiren Kakka in Land Adventure category. Satendra Singh will get the award in Water Adventure categoty and Gajanand Yadava will get it in the Air Adventure category. Late Magan Bissa will be confered the award in Life Time Achievement category.
