BITS Pilani Students Develop Radar-Evading Bomb-Dropping Drones, Indian Army To Start Getting Deliveries Within 2 Months: Report

Chandigarh: Two students from BITS Pilani’s Hyderabad campus shook the defence circles with their innovation. Jayant Khatri and Saurya Chaudhury, have developed radar-evading, bomb-dropping drones, reported DD News. The duo also gave a successful demonstration of these drones to the Indian Army at Chandigarh.

These drones are now being inducted into the Indian Army. The innovation is considered as a major boost to India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat or Make-in-India initiative. Khatri belongs to Rajasthan’s Ajmer, while Chaudhury is from West Bengal’s Kolkata.

Detailed Report By DD News:

This advanced unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) can reportedly fly at speeds of up to 300 kilometers per hour. It can evade enemy radar systems and carry out precision strikes. The students established Apolland Dynamics and will start supplying these state-of-the-art drones to the armed forces within just two months, reported the government-owned media outlet.

While speaking to DD News, Khatri said, “We are going to demonstrate our drones and the Army is procuring our drones. We make different kinds of drones. We make kamikaze drones, we make bomb-dropping drones.”

Explaining the difference between these two types of drones, Khatri added, “So in the bomb-dropping drone, we have a locking mechanism through which the bomb is attached, and when the lock goes off, the bomb drops. The kamikaze is the suicide bomber which explodes with the quad itself.”

Meanwhile, Chaudhury told the media house that they also worked on high-speed surveillance drones. “The company was conceptualized around April this year and we incorporated it as an entity in mid-May. We had already started designing our flagship kamikaze drone by then, and we had also built our payload-dropping drone as well as worked on our high-speed surveillance drones. So we had a very successful demonstration at Chandigarh and subsequently started delivering orders to the Indian Army,” Chaudhury, said.

With changing warfare techniques, drones are becoming significant assets for armed forces around the world.
