IMA POP Spring Term 2019: Lt Reza Khalid Rejects IIT, Prefers to Serve Nation by Joining Indian Army

The Passing Out Parade (POP) of of 144 Regular Course, 127 Technical Graduate Course and 27 UES Course was held at Indian Military Academy’s (IMA) Drill Square on June 8, 2019. A total of 382 Gentlemen Cadets (GCs) took oath to serve the nation till their last breathe. Among the newly commissioned officers, Lt Reza Khalid preferred to serve in the Indian Army over joining the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). Lt Khalid who hails from Ranchi, cleared the entrance examinations of IIT and also of BITS Palani in the first attempt. But the the officer chose to join the armed forces. Lt Khalid joined the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla in 2015. After three years of training at the institute, he was for one year at the IMA. The officer’s father Mohammed Khalid is retired government employee from the state food department.

Talking to media, Lt Khalid said that he joined the Indian Army as wnted to serve the nation. He further added that he wanted respect, dignity and power in life, which he will get by joining the armed forces. The officer was commissioned into the Punjab Regiment. On Saturday a total of 459 GCs including 77 cadets from friendly foreign countries joined passed out from the IMA. General Officer Commanding in Chief South Western Command Lieutenant General Cherish Mathson PVSM, VSMSM, SM reviewed the parade. Maximum number of 72 officers were commissioned from Uttar Pradesh, followed by Bihar with 46 officers. Meanwhile, 33 officers were commissioned from Punjab. Among the GCs of the friendly foreign countries, 45 cadets from Afghanistan completed their training.

IMA POP Spring Term 2019: Identical Twins Commissioned Into Indian Army After Completing Training From Indian Military Academy

Indian Military Academy (IMA) is the institute where boys are groomed into men. On June 8, the Passing Out Parade (POP) was held at IMA’s Drill Square. In a rare occasion, identical twins, Abhinav Pathak ans Parinav Pathak  have been commissioned into the Indian Army. Both the brothers hail from Amritsar, but their family currently resided in Jalandhar. They joined the IMA through 127 Technical Entry Scheme (TES) after clearing the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview. Abhinav, who is two minutes elder to Parinav will be part of Army Air Defence (AAD), while his brother has been commissioned into Army Aviation Core. Initially, Parinav will serve in the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry. Both the brothers pursued 12th from the Senior Study  – II, Amritsar. Abhinav did his computer science engineering from DAV Institute of Engineering in Jalandhar, while Parinav studied mechanical engineering from Guru Nanak Dev Engneering Collage in Ludhiana. Talking to the media, they said that during their schooling they were motivated by their teachers. They also revealed that during their schooling and during training at the IMA, often Abhinav was misidentified as Parinav and vice versa.   • Silver Medal for the Gentleman Cadet standing First in the Order of Merit from Foreign GCs was presented to Junior Under Officer Shirzad Sarbaz.
  • Chief of Army Staff Banner was awarded to Keren Copmany  for standing Overall First amongst 16 companies for the Spring Term 2019.

IMA POP Spring Term 2019: Commandant Parade Held at Chetwode Drill Square; 382 GCs to Join Indian Army on June 8

The historic Chetwode Drill Square played host to the Commandant’s Parade for spring term 2019 on June 6. The Commandant’s Parade marked the culmination of training of 382 Indian and 77 Gentlemen Cadets from nine friendly foreign countries. A large number of school children from Dehradun and neighbouring cities, local citizens and Army personnel with their families and friends witnessed the impressive parade.

Lt Gen SK Jha, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, Commandant, Indian Military Academy (IMA) who reviewed the Parade, complimented all the Gentlemen Cadets for an immaculate turnout and excellent drill movements, which indicated a high level of motivation, pride and cohesion achieved by them during their training at IMA. General S K Jha in his address to the Gentlemen Cadets highlighted that the Army’s reputation rests firmly on their shoulders. He said that they have earned this honour with hard work and they need to retain it by living up to the Army’s core values of Character, Competence, Commitment and Compassion. These values are reflected in the IMA’s Code of Conduct and Gentlemen Cadets aspiring to high ideals and pursuing excellence, must demonstrate these at all times. The ‘IMA Ball’  for the Spring Term – 2019 was held at the Indian Military Academy (IMA) at Dehradun on May 25. The highlight of the evening was the selection of Mr IMA and Miss IMA, in which the Gentleman Cadets and their lady guests participated whole-heartedly with great zeal and enthusiasm. Miss Anushka Chauhan was adjudged as Miss IMA and Gentleman Cadet (GC)  Armanjit Singh Dhaliwal was declared as Mr IMA. The proud winners won exquisite gift hampers. The IMA Ball is a precursor to the final event – The Passing Out Parade of the IMA, which is on June 8, 2019. The evening of joy, merriment and nostalgia commenced with the Commandant IMA, Lt Gen SK Jha, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, who set the ball rolling. The Gentleman Cadets were radiant in evening military attire and the ladies were at their dazzling best during the gala event. The glittering and most awaited social event – the ‘IMA Ball’, is held at the end of each term to mark the culmination of a rigorous training schedule of the Passing Out Course. The event marked with fun and frolic can also be termed as the ‘Break Up Party’ for the Passing Out Course. The occasion was characterised by the display of a high sense of chivalry, courtesy, etiquette and gentlemanly conduct of the passing out course. These qualities which are imbibed and nurtured in the IMA, remain as an important part of their lives as officers on commissioning.

Indian Military Academy POP 2018: 347 GCs Commissioned Into The Indian Army

A total of 427 Gentlemen Cadets (GCs) of 143 Regular Course, 126 Technical Graduate Course and 26 UES Course, including 80 Foreign GC’ from seven friendly foreign countries passed out from the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun on December 08, 2018. Lieutenant General Devraj Anbu, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, Vice Chief of Army Staff reviewed the parade. GC’s marched with full enthusiasm and vigour during the Passing Out Parade (POP) held at the iconic Chetwode Hall Building.

Maximum number of 53 officers were commissioned from Bihar, followed by Haryana with 51 officers. Meanwhile, 36 officers were commissioned from Bihar. Among the GCs of the friendly foreign countries, 49 cadets from Afghanistan completed their training.

Congratulating the GCs on successful completion of their training at IMA, the Reviewing Officer complimented all cadets for the excellent parade, immaculate turnout as well as the crisp and energetic drill movements indicating the high standards of training and discipline imbibed by the young Gentlemen Cadets. He also congratulated the award winners on their commendable achievement which is a reflection of their hard work and toil that they have put in while undergoing training here in IMA. At the end he said that IMA’s world class reputation and the achievements of its Officers are attributed to the outstanding quality of its instructors and staff. He acknowledged the commitment of the instructors and staff of the IMA and their dedication to the Gentlemen Cadets. Complimenting the effort, he said, that the IMA has instilled in the GCs a sense of duty, loyalty and service to the Nation. Finally, he congratulated the parents and the families once again for the accomplishment of the vibrant, energetic young men, which is a result of their support and encouragement.

While interacting with the media, the Vice Army Chief said that the IMA cadets are being trained seeing the modern day security threats including hybrid warfare. He added that the cadets trained at the IMA are capable to fight with the enemy on any front.

Indian Military Academy Gives 383 officers to Indian Army; 74 Foreign GC’s Also Completed Training

457 GCs of 142 Regular Course, 125 Technical Graduate Course and 25 UES Course, including 74 Foreign Gentlemen Cadets (GC’s) from seven friendly foreign countries passed out from the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun on 09 Jun 2018. General Rajendra Chhetri, AWC, CGSC, MSS, Chief of Army Staff, Nepal Army, reviewed the parade. The GOC-in-C, ARTRAC Lt Gen MM Naravane, AVSM, SM, VSM, delegation members and Defence Attaches also witnessed the Parade. The GCs displayed tremendous enthusiasm, vigour and zeal, putting up an excellent show, marching to Military tunes of `Col Bogey’ and `Sare Jahan Se Achha’ with pride and élan.

This time around 63 officerss have commissioned from Uttar Pradesh, 33 from uttrakjand, Haryana has given 49 officers where as 29 officers are commissioned from Punjab. Till date 58282 officers have been commissioned into the Indian Army, where as 2181 foreign officers have successfully completed their training from the academy.

The Commentators enthralled audience with their magic of their words. The commentary team of the IMA included GC Dogra, Col Jiwan Kumar Singh, Mrs Aaditi Sharma, Maj Preeti Yadav. Lt. Col Dinesh who is instructor at IMA also handles an additional responsibility of public relations.

On the eve of the Passing Out Parade, Indian Military Academy organized a Continuity Drill and “Son-et-Lumiere’’ (Sound and Light show) for the parents of the passing out course and the visiting dignitaries on 08 Jun 2018. The distinguished guests included the Reviewing Officer Gen Rajendra Chhetri, AWC, CGSC, MSS, Chief of Army Staff, Nepal Army, the GOC-in-C, ARTRAC Lt Gen MM Naravane, AVSM, SM, VSM, delegation members, Defence Attaches, parents and family members of the GCs of the passing out course.

Held at the historic Chetwode Drill Square which provided the pristine environment for the conduct of the event, the spectacular show commenced with exquisite movements of Continuity Drill by the Gentlemen Cadets (GCs). A contingent comprised of ___ participating cadets bidding farewell to the senior colleagues, conducted a masterly display of drill movements synchronized with an accompanying band. Following the continuity drill was the spectacular “Son-et-Lumiere” show, a multimedia, audio-visual presentation on the theme “Indian Military Academy Through the Ages” which took the audience on a nostalgic journey of the Academy from its inception to its present status. The spectacular show combined with the effects of brilliant light and sound mesmerized the august gathering.

  1. Showcasing the high standards of the training and physical excellence achieved by the Gentlemen Cadets of Indian Military Academy, a Multi Activity Display was conducted at Somnath Stadium on 08 Jun 2018 as a prelude to the Passing out Parade. The Display was witnessed by a large gathering of spectators, which included the Passing out Course, their parents and relatives. The show was graced by General Rajendra Chhetri, AWC, CGSC, MSS, COAS Nepal, the Reviewing Officer for the Passing out Parade.

  1. The aim of training at the Academy includes developing physical fitness and a robust mind with a sense of adventure amongst the Gentlemen Cadets. The Gentlemen Cadets showed dare devil acts on horse back, which included tent pegging, trick riding and showjumping. Further, a scintillating performance was put up by the Gentleman Cadets showcasing their physical prowess through their gymnastic agility and acrobatic skills. A Motorcycle display team from Army Adventure Cell, “ASC TORNADOES” thrilled the audience by display of their skills at manoeuvring motorcycles and daredevil acts.
