The Indian Army on Thursday lost a brave officer Colonel Navjot Singh Bal. He was a former commanding officer of the 2 Para (special forces). Col Navjot Singh Bal passed away in Bengaluru Thursday morning after battling with cancer for two years. He was 39 years old and was icon for young officers.
Ahead of the Republic Day 2020, the government of India on Saturday released a list of gallantry awards. This year Shaurya Chakra were awarded to six Indian Army Person for showing bravery against all odds. Shaurya Chakra, the third highest gallantry award during peace time, was awarded to Lieutenant Colonel Jyoti Lama, Major KB Singh.

President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday conferred gallantry awards to defence personnel at at the Defence Investiture Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. He also presented Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) to General Bipin Rawat, Chief of the Army Staff at the ceremony.
