Gauri Mahadik, Widow of Major Prasad Mahadik Of Indian Army to Join Officers’ Training Academy in April

Gauri Mahadik, the widow of Major Prasad Mahadik of the Indian Army is all set to Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai in April this year. The 32-year-old Gauri prepared hard and cleared her Services Selection Board (interview) in the second attempt. She topped the merit list of the SSB in the widow category in her second attempt. Gauri will be commissioned into the Army as Lieutenant in March next year after completing the 11-month training at the OTA. While speaking to news Agency ANI, she recollected the memories of the days she spent with Major Mahadik. She said that Major Mahadik always wanted to see her happy and smiling. She added that she would serve the country with the same dedication the way Major Mahadik did. Gauri further added that after Major Mahadik’s demise that time she decided that she would not cry and one day she would definitely wear the uniform and stars of her husband. Interview of Gauri Mahadik:

Major Mahadik lost his life in a fire on December 30, 2017, in Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh, close to China border. The army officer hailed from Virar in Mumbai. He joined the OTA in Chennai (SSC-93 Batch) and was commissioned on 17 March 2012, into 7 Bihar Regiment. Both got married on February 15, 2015. He is survived by his wife Gauri, father Ganesh and mother Sharda.

Similarly, Last year in September, Neeru Sambyal, an army man’s widow was also commissioned as Lieutenant in the Army after completing 11 months training from the OTA. Lt. Neeru is a widow of Rifleman Ravinder Sambyal of 2 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles unit. Sambyal died of an injury in 2015. She has a four-year-old daughter, Sanidhaya. After getting commissioned Lt. Neeru joined her regiment in Assam.
