Dhanush, India’s First Ever Indigenously Designed & Developed Artillery Gun To be Inducted Into Indian Army on April 8

India’s fist ever indigenously designed and developed Dhanush gun to be inducted into the Indian Army. The 155mm/45 Calibre towed gun system will be handed over by Ordnance Factories Board (OFB) on April 8, 2019. The Dhanush howitzer can be employed in all types of terrains. Its design is based on the Bofors Haubits FH77 which India acquired in the 1980s. According to reports, around 81 percent of the components of Dhanush are sourced indigenously. The gun completed development trials in 2018 and was approved for series production in 2019. The Indian Army has ordered 114 guns and the total order size could increase to 414 guns. The gun is capable of firing next generation ammunition and can accommodate Bi-Modular Charges as well as bag charges. India tests NAG 190, $500 Million Spike Missile deal in jeopardy.

The Dhanush is also equipped with Artillery gun aiming and positioning system consisting of inertial navigation system and encoders for positioning capability and muzzle velocity recorder. It has a strike range of 38 kilometres. Three Dhanush guns were handed over to the Indian Army for user trials on July 2016. Last month, the Ministry of Defence and the Indian Army had given clearance to OFB for the production of the guns. Indian Navy Trolls China Through Tweets Over Patrolling in Indian Ocean Region.

The efficiency of artillery gun system has been tested under severe cold conditions in Sikkim and Leh and in hot and humid weather in Balasore, Odisha, Babina in Jhansi. The gun was also tested in the desert of Pokhran in Rajasthan.
