Two terrorist were gunned down by security forces on Thursday in Bijbehara town of South Kashmir in Anantnag district. A joint operation was carried out by the Indian Army’s 3 Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police. A cordon and search operation was launched by the joint team of security forces in Bangandar Mohalla of the town following an input about the presence of terrorists in the area. The encounter broke out after the terrorists opened fire on the security forces. According to reports, the terrorists belonged to Hizbul Mujaheedin terrorist group. After this encounter, 71 terrorists have been eliminated so far this year. Meanwhile, on Wednesday addressing a joint press conference of the state police and the Indian Army, Director General of Police in Jammu & Kashmir Dilbag Singh said, “Recruitment of local youth continues to be low, it is a healthy sign. 272 terrorists were eliminated in the state during 2018 and a large number were apprehended.” INS Vikrant, First Indigenous-Built AirCraft Carrier to Be Delivered to Indian Navy in 2021: Admiral Sunil Lanba.

Adding further, Lt General KJS Dhillon, GOC 15 Corps, said, “Total 69 terrorists have been killed and 12 have been apprehended this year. Post Pulwama 41 terrorists have been killed and out of them 25 belonged to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), 13 of them were Pakistanis.” Speaking about the presence of JeM terrorists in the valley, the General-rank officer said, “We have targeted Jaish-e-Mohammed leadership, the situation now is that no one is coming forward to take over the leadership of JeM in the valley.” He also said that the Army is continuing operations in the Kashmir Valley with full vigour.
