India Requests More S-400 Missile Defence Systems, Russia Approves: Report

New Delhi: India has requested additional S-400 air defence missile systems from Russia after the success of the air defence missile system in the recent military conflict with Pakistan, reported Times Now citing sources. The report further claimed that Russia has “approved” India’s request.

However, there is no official confirmation in this regard. S-400 is the heart of Indian air defence, along with Akash and barrage missiles. Due to its exceptional performance in the recent military conflict, it is nicknamed ‘Sudarshan Chakra’, the powerful weapon of Lord Vishnu and his incarnation, Lord Krishna, in the Hindu mythology.

Currently, India has deployed four S-400 squadrons. More batteries of S-400 have been requested in the wake of recent tensions between India and Pakistan after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

On the intervening night of May 6 and May 7, India launched Operation Sindoor targeting nine terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) to avenge the Pahalgam attack.

In response, Pakistan, in a failed attempt, tried to target civilian and military installations in India on the intervening night of May 7 and 8. However, India’s air defence thwarted Pakistan’s drone and missile attack. On the night of May 9, India targeted several Pakistani airbases, including Nur Khan near Rawalpindi and Rahimyar Khan.

However, on Saturday, India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire.

On Sunday, in a joint press conference of the Indian Armed Forces, Air Marshal AK Bharti said that India had downed an unspecified number of Pakistani fighter jets in the recent conflict.
