Lt Col Anand Subramaniam, a Shaurya chakra award winner passed away on June 29 at an age of 34 in Assam. Lt Col Subramaniam hailed from Thakkala Villukuri village of Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari district village. He belonged to 4 Sikh Light Infantry of the Indian Army and was about to command the unit in some time. Lt Col Subramaniam was suffering from high fever and the infection spread to internal organs. Due to this infection, he became seriously ill. Though the officer was heli evacuated to Jorhat military hospital and put on ventilator but he succumbed to death. When Lt Col Subramaniam became ill, he was serving in Arunachal Pradesh.

Lt Col Subramaniam was awarded Shaurya Chakra for his valiant action in Assam against terrorist attacks in 2010. The mortal remains arrived at Thiruvananthapuram by air. His last rights were performed on June 30 at his village. He is survived by his wife Priyanka Nair and son Karthik Pillai.
