Lieutenant General Jaiveer Singh Negi, Commandant, Indian Military Academy (IMA) will finally bid adieu to the Olive Greens on September 30, 2020. Lt Gen Jaiveer Singh Negi’s illustrious career spanned over nearly 40 years. He had tenated important Command, Staff and Instructional appointments. During a simple and solemn ceremony being held at the War Memorial, IMA, the General Officer will pay homage to the martyrs and will be hanging his uniform today.
An alumnus of National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, the General Officer was commissioned into the 16th Battalion, The Dogra Regiment on June 13, 1981. As a Colonel, he commanded his Battalion, 16 DOGRA in the Western Sector during Operation PARAKRAM and later as a Brigadier commanded an Assam Rifles Sector in Assam/Arunachal Pradesh in intense Counter Insurgency Operations in North East. As a Major General, he commanded a Division in the High Altitudes of Kargil (J&K) and later commanded a Strike Corps at Ambala as a Lieutenant General.
The General Officer is an alumnus of the prestigious Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, Higher Command Course at Army War College and a graduate from National Defence College, New Delhi. He was an Instructor at Infantry School Mhow and was a part of the Indian Military Academy Training Team in Bhutan. He has served with United Nations as the Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of an Indian Multi National Brigade in Congo. He has tenated important appointments at the Army Headquarters. He served as Brigadier in the Perspective Planning Directorate and as a Major General at Military Secretary’s Branch and Military Operations Directorate at Integrated HQ of MoD (Army). As the Commandant, IMA during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, he was instrumental in institutionalising stringent and innovative measures to keep the spread of COVID under control. During his stint as the Commandant, the Academy swiftly adapted to modified training modules to fulfill the primary mandate of the Academy towards imparting quality training to the future military leaders, while ensuring due COVID protocols. The unique Passing Out Parade of the Gentleman Cadets in June 2020 amidst COVID-19 scenario under his leadership was one of its own kind witnessed in any Training Academy in the entire world.
The underpasses at IMA was approved from the Ministry of Defence under his stewardship. His tireless strive with the Uttarakhand State Government and the Ministry of Defence towards final fructification gave the project its much needed impetus after a long delay of four decades and will act as a boon both to the civil populace and the Indian Military Academy. The General Officer plans to settle down in Dehradun and will continue to contribute to the society and the Army.
