Pakistan is trying its best to create disturbance in the Kashmir valley, but Kashmiri youths unaffected by such wicked tactics of the neighbouring country lined up for the Indian Army recruitment drive. On Saturday over 2000 Kashmiri youths took part in a recruitment rally of the Territorial Army in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. Amongst the youths appeared for the recruitment rally told the media that they were inspired by Indian Air Force pilot Abhinandan Varthaman’s bravery. According to reports, there were 59 vacant posts for four districts — Udhapmur, Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar. Earlier on February 19 also, Several Kashmiri youths took part in an army recruitment drive in Baramulla district. The recruitment was done for the 111 vacant posts in Indian Army. Meanwhile, on March 9, 152 Kashmiri youths after clering the rigorous training got recruited in the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JKLI) Regiment of the Indian Army. According to areport of India Today, One of the young soldiers Ishfaq Rasool hails from Pulwama, where the dastardly attack took place.
Addressing the soldiers of JKLI and their family, Lieutenant General KJS Dhillon, GOC 15 Corps, appealed to Kashmiri youths not to join terrorism. He said, “”I request all the mothers of Kashmir to please request their sons who have joined terrorism to surrender and get back to the mainstream. On February 14, 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were martyred in a suicide attack arried out by Jaish-E-Mohammed (JeM) in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir. After the attack, relations touched he rock bottom. On February 26, 12 Mirage-2000 fighter jets crossed the Line of Control and destroyed terror camps of JeM in Pakistan’s Balakot. In retaliation, the very next day, fighter jets of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) violated the Indian airspace. The IAF fighter jets intercepted PAF aircraft.
Wg Cdr Varthaman was part of a team comprising of six Mi-21 Bison pilots who took off from Srinagar, apart from Su-30 MKIs, Mig-29s and Mirage-2000s from other air force stations. According to reports, the dogfight lasted for about 15 minutes, during which the IAF pilot managed to “lock on” to PAF’s F-16 and then fired R-73 missile. The IAF officer was released almost after 60 hours by Pakistan on March 1.
