Ahead of the 22nd Anniversary of the Kargil Vijay Diwas, “Dhruva Kargil Ride” was organised by the Indian Army from Udhampur to Drass on Thursday to commemorate gallant actions of Kargil War heroes. The Dhruva Kargil Ride was flagged off by Kargil War hero, Subedar Sanjay Kumar, PVC. The bike rally was led by GOC-in-C, Northern Command, Lt Gen YK Joshi. It comprises 25 riders. Remembering Shaheed Captain Vikram Batra, ‘Shershaah’ of 1999 Kargil War, on His Martyrdom Day.
Notably, Lt Gen Joshi, who led the 13 JAK Rif during the Kargil War of 1999 with Pakistan. “Very important to note that this sacrifice made by the brave Indian Army is not only recognized but also remembered so that they continue to encourage the current and future generations of the country. This effort of ours, this rally that we are undertaking is to remember the fallen heroes during operation Vijay.,” reported Republicworld quoting Lt Gen Joshi as saying.
Dhruva Kargil Ride Flagged Of By Subedar Sanjay Kumar:
Meanwhile, another bike rally was organised in Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh. On July 19, 2021 General Officer Commanding, Fire and Fury Corps PGK Menon flagged off a bike rally for Doulat Beg Oldie. It completed its first phase from Leh to Daulat Beg Oldie and returned to Leh Wednesday. The second phase of this rally commenced on Thursday from Leh to Drass.Lt Gen Menon led the rally. The motorcycle rally led by the Fure and Fury Corps commander will with the Dhruva Kargil Ride at Drass on Friday.
On Wednesday, a musical evening was organised in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur as part of the Kargil Vijas Diwas celebrations 2021. The Indian Army in a statement said that rhe ‘Shaurya Band’ of Jammu and Kashmir joined Northern Command at Udhampur to present a musical evening full of patriotism and fervour of nationalism to honour the heroes of the Kargil War. Lt Gen Joshi was also present at the event.
Earlier this month, Lt Gen Joshi also over Batra Top in Sukhoi 30 MKI and paid tribute to his comrade Shaheed Captain Vikram Batra, who laid down his life during the Kargil War. Notably, Lt Gen YK Joshi was the Commanding Officer of the 13 Jammu And Kashmir Rifles (JAK Rifles) at the time of the Kargil War and led the attack on Point 4875, which is now known as “Batra Top” as Shaeed Capain Batra attained martyrdom while fighting with enemies at this point.
The Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year on July 26 to commemorate the victory of the Indian Army in flushing out Pakistani Army troops and terrorists from vacated Indian Positions in the Kargil sector along the Line of Control (LoC). The Kargil war was fought from May-July 1999.
