The Indian Military Academy at Dehradun continuously endeavors to evolve a training regime committed to transforming young Gentlemen Cadets into warrior leaders of the future. In addition to Basic Military Training, the focus therefore reamains on leadership development and all round personality development. As part of a series of varied programs, performance and talks structured to motivate and inspire these young minds, a talk was organised at Khetarpal Auditorium of the Academy by Commander Abhilash Tomy, Kirti Chakra, Nausena Medal (Retired).
The eminent speaker has the distinction of non stop, solo sailing across 65,000 nautical miles. This circumnavigation and the challenges he faced undertaking it, were shared by the speaker in his extremely captivating narrative of the experiences of 151 Solitary days of his sailing record. The officer has also authored two books. The Gentlemen Cadets could appreciate the grit, determination, courage, resilience and risk taking involved in this adventure. These are the qualities that academy nurtures amongst the future Military Leaders and such events supplement those efforts. The talk by the ‘First Indian Circumnavigator of the Earth’, was highly appreciated by all and he received a standing ovation from the Academy In the closing remarks, the Commandant, Indian Military Academy, Lt Gen Harinder Singh exhorted all Gentlemen Cadets to imbibe adventure and risk taking qualities in them to be proficient Military Leaders ahead and be better equipped to face the challenges that the nation faces.
