Shershaah, Movie on Captain Vikram Batra’s Life, to Hit Theatres on July 2, 2021; Actor Siddharth Malhotra Confirms Release Date

Shershaah, the movie based on the life of Kargil War Hero and Param Vir Chakra winner Shaheed Captain Vikram Batra, will hit theatres on July 2, 2021. Siddharth Malhotra will portray the role of Captain Vikram Batra. The announcement regarding the release date was made by Siddhartha Malhotra on his Twitter handle. Kaira Advani will essay the the role of Dimple Cheema, Captain Batra’s girlfriend. Remembering Shaheed Captain Vikram Batra, ‘Shershaah’ of 1999 Kargil War, on His 21st Martyrdom Day.

Siddhartha in a tweet said,” The untold true story of Captain Vikram Batra (PVC) is all set to unravel on the big screens. #Shershaah coming to theatres near you on 2nd July, 2021. See you at the movies!”

The film is produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Vishnu Vardhan is the director of the movie. The movie was scheduled to hit theatres in July last year, but due to COVID-19, its release was postponed to July 2, 2021. In January this year, Karan Johar released posters of the movie.

Shaheed Captain Batra had become a household name in India during the Kargil War. The young and jovial officer of the Indian Army, also code named as “Shershaah” during the Kargil War 1999 attained martyrdom while fighting for his motherland on July 7, 1999. Captain Batra was born on September 9, 1974 in Himachal Pradesh’s Palampur to Girdhari Lal Batra, a government school principal, and Kamal Kanta Batra, a school teacher. Captain Batra joined the Indian Military Academy in 1997 and commissioned as a lieutenant into the 13th battalion of the Indian Army on December 6, 1997. In January 1999, Batra was sent to attend the Commando Course at Belgaum, Karnataka where he excelled.

The young officer gave his success signal “Yeh Dil Mange More!” after the capture of Point 5140. He attained martyrdom while capturing the Point 4857. Later, the point was renamed as “Batra Top.” For displaying bravery in the battlefield, Captain Batra was awarded Param Vir Chakra (Posthumously), India highest wartime bravery award.
